Five cones and a bag of sand
Concrete, plastic, masking tape.
Five traffic cones cast in concrete create relics of the unmonumental natural sculpture of Austin. Their concrete nature makes their comic uselessness even more evident, existing in a state of collapse and ruin which their rubber form can never take. Through reversing hard and soft materials she questions the codes of obstruction. The work comments on the state of negative liberty in the US and the obstacles of this artifice that need to be constantly navigated.
Plaster, paper, acrylic, tape.
